Abstract
Hardin s lifeboat metaphor simplifies the issues involved in living on a finite planet with finite resources. If humankind hopes to remain on Earth for many generations, then humans need to understand and cope with the limits of a finite planet. Also, the rights and responsibilities of achieving the sustainable use of the planet must be congruent, equal effort from every country.
