BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 31, 2003 – The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will hold a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the War Memorial to honor 1st Lt. Jeffrey J. Kaylor '01, who was killed in action in Iraq in April.
Members of Kaylor's family, including his widow, will be on campus to unveil Kaylor's name on the Ut Prosim pylon of the War Memorial, according to Col. Rock Roszak, associate director of Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni relations. "This will be the 418th name on the Pylons, which list all Virginia Tech alumni killed in the line of duty during time of war," Roszak said.
Traffic on the Mall and at the War Memorial end of the Drillfield will be stopped for the ceremony and the entire Corps of Cadets regiment will attend. Alumni attendance should also be strong because Corps officials are expecting 450 people for the Corps Homecoming on Saturday.
Kaylor, 24, was killed on April 7, 2003, while leading his Multiple Rocket Launcher System platoon. He was a graduate of Centreville High School in Virginia. He first attended Radford University, but transferred to Tech because he wanted to be a cadet.
Kaylor was a cadet Army battalion commander in the fall of 2000, a member of the C Company, a distinguished military graduate, and a three-year scholarship winner. He was married to the former Jennifer L. Cosbey, a 2002 graduate of Tech who was a military police officer at the time of her husband's death.
