BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 25, 2003 – As Virginia Tech continues its 10 year planning process on the campus master plan, an information session will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Conference Room A in the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center. The session is open to members of the Virginia Tech community and to the public.
Members of the university architect's office and Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas, planning consultants, will be on hand to explain the process for involvement and update the university community on progress to date.
"Campus master planning works in concert with the university's goals and aspirations," says Scott Hurst, university architect. "Input from the university community, as well as from the general public, is an important component of our overall data gathering effort."
The campus master plan guides physical development in collaboration with the university's mission and current or future academic and student life programming. The plan identifies future development sites, guidelines for building design, assesses campus utilities and integrates transportation and parking strategies.
The planning process will continue through the spring semester with at least one more public session and other opportunities for public comment. "We will be sharing ideas and preliminary plans with the university community throughout the process," Hurst said.
A final plan will be presented to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors in June.
