A hilarious skewering of American theatre! For more information see Department of Theatre Arts at http://www.theatre.vt.edu/.

MUSIC - University Chamber Music - Burning River Brass

Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.; Blacksburg Presbyterian Church

A special performance Thursday night only. Composed of twelve of the country's finest brass and percussion players, Burning River Brass is an ensemble on fire! The expanded instrumentation provides a broad palette of colors for works written for brass as well as fresh arrangements of classical literature.

THEATRE - Special Event - Nickel & Dimed, The Play adapted by Joan Holden from the book by Barbara Ehrenreich.

Oct. 7-9 at 8 pm; Oct. 10 at 2 pm; Wesley Foundation Theater

The Department of Theatre Arts is collaborating with the New River Valley Living Wage Campaign to produce the stage production of the best-selling book that revealed life as a low-wage worker in America. The play "Nickel & Dimed," as adapted by Joan Holden of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, has been staged successfully around the country to very favorable reviews. It provides a contemporary day-to-day chronicle of the lives of low-paid workers and the financial challenges they face. This project will promote a conversation among our greater NRV community on the plight of the working poor and the need for a living wage. Bob Leonard of the Theatre Arts department is directing the Blacksburg production. For more information see the NRV Living Wage Campaign at http://www.greens.org.vt.edu/livingwage/ndplay.htm
