Pianist Jeanne Schumann to perform

BLACKSBURG, Va., March 30, 2005 – Award-winning pianist Jeanne Schumann will present the Marilyn Norstedt Memorial Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Squires Recital Salon on Virginia Tech's campus. The concert is sponsored by Musica Viva! of Southwest Virginia and the Virginia Tech University Libraries.

Schumann, 23, a Blacksburg native who studied with Teresa Ehrlich of the Renaissance Music Academy, has received prizes in both national and international piano competitions.

The program will include the Dvorak Cypresses for string quartet; the Chopin Piano Sonata in Bb minor ("Funeral March") for piano solo; the Schubert-Liszt Erlkonig for piano solo; and the Schumann Piano Quintet for piano and strings. Schumann will be joined by David Ehrlich (violin), Beverly Shin (violin), David Yang (viola), and Roy Harran (cello).

The concert is presented in memory of Professor Marilyn Norstedt, who worked for more than 30 years at the University Libraries beginning in 1972. In August 2003, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors posthumously recognized Norstedt for her service to the university with the title of Associate Professor Emerita of the University Libraries.
