University Statement on Lane Stadium

BLACKSBURG, Va., July 29, 2005 – In the interest of keeping our fans and public apprised, Virginia Tech provides the following update.

Virginia Tech has been operating under the impression that all aspects of the West Side construction project at Lane Stadium would be completed on or around the construction contract date. Our general contractor and its subcontractors have been working feverishly to have the West Side project completed.

Yesterday, the general contractor informed us of certain schedule slippages and that some elements of the construction project will continue through the early season.

The contractor has assured us that all seats will be available, and suites ready for occupancy.

However, certain aspects of these areas will not be entirely finished. For example, we have been told that some portions of the club areas and suites will lack finish trim and floor coverings. Non-essential game areas such as offices and academic suites and landscaping will not be completed by the first game.

We regret that some construction will continue into the fall. University officials will continue to assess the progress of the project and will provide periodic updates.

We soon will have one of the nation’s premier football facilities in which to proudly share Hokie football and Virginia Tech. Game time for Ohio University on Sept. 17 is 3:30 p.m.
