BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 15, 2005 – The annual Engineering Expo, hosted by the Student Engineers' Council (SEC), will be held on the Virginia Tech campus Sept. 20-21. Some 250 firms and government agencies, an all-time record high for this exposition at Virginia Tech, will be on hand to recruit potential employees from students in the College of Engineering.
The Student Engineers' Council, a self-funded student organization, expects more than 5,000 students will be in attendance to exchange information with company representatives.
The chairperson of the exposition committee, Eugene Jerebitski, a senior in mechanical engineering, has done an outstanding job in organizing this year's exposition, said Lynn Nystrom, faculty adviser to the Student Engineers' Council. "Eugene has devoted a substantial part of his summer, preparing for this event, and ensuring we have a record-setting attendance by companies interested in employing our students."
The exposition opens to the engineering student body on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Engineering Expo continues on Wednesday, Sept.21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students are invited to walk through the exhibits, many of which include videos, products, promotional items, demonstrations and other items which detail what the companies do.

The locations for this year’s Expo are: Squires Student Center, Owens Banquet Hall, the Multi-Purpose Room of the Graduate Life Center (formerly Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center), and the Torgersen Museum, located in Torgersen Hall.
Of the 250 companies, 58 elected to become sponsors of the Student Engineers' Council. Sponsorship is offered at three levels: silver for $250, gold for $500, and platinum for $1,250. Benefits vary from company publicity on all SEC events to a guaranteed booth at the Engineering Expo.
This corporate showcase is an extension of the SEC's mission: to promote the personal and professional development of student engineers at Virginia Tech by helping them to define career goals, pursue career opportunities, and develop leadership skills.
