Finalists for Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences meet campus community in open forums
BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 24, 2007 – Four finalists for the post of Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech are visiting the campus through Feb. 2 for interviews, receptions, and public forums.
All faculty, staff, and students are welcome and encouraged to attend the receptions and open forum presentations of the candidates. Each candidate will make a 20- to 30-minute presentation, to be followed by a question and answer period.
Each of the candidates will be asked to discuss: "The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences: Quality, Innovation, Results."
The following finalists are scheduled to present:
- Robert Pratt, department head of history at the University of Georgia, will visit on Friday, Jan. 26. A meet-the-candidate reception from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Latham Ballroom B at The Inn at Virginia Tech will be followed by an open forum, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the same location.
- Sue Ott Rowlands, professor of theatre and interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toledo, will be on campus Tuesday, Jan. 30. A meet-the-candidate reception from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. will be followed by an open forum from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Latham Ballroom B at The Inn at Virginia Tech.
- Jean Ann Linney, vice president and associate provost at the University of Notre Dame, will interview Friday, Feb. 2. Her meet-the-candidate reception will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Latham Ballroom B at The Inn at Virginia Tech, and will be followed by an open forum from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the same location.
- Dennis Kivlighan, interim dean of the College of Education at the University of Maryland, was on campus Jan. 23, and appeared at an open forum and reception held on that date.
All of the open forums will be recorded and made available as podcasts on the Provost's website. Access to the podcasts requires a Virginia Tech PID and password.
