Foreign languages and literatures hosts international convention at Hotel Roanoke

BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 2, 2007 – The 57th Annual Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Conference (MIFLC) will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center on Oct. 11-13, 2007.

Hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, the annual convention is expected to draw 150-plus attendees from more than 70 colleges and universities in this country and from several educational institutions in Spain, Russia, Canada, Mexico and Colombia.

The three-day program will feature 37 regular sessions devoted to modern languages, linguistics, culture, literature, and education abroad. Other highlights include a session on learning language in the 21st century; a Friday-afternoon plenary session on “Memoir as Literature;” and a Saturday workshop on Chinese calligraphy.

The traditional Friday-evening Banquet will feature a keynote address by John E. Dooley, vice provost for outreach and international affairs.
