Bucy named interim assistant vice president, head of sponsored programs

BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 16, 2006 – Linda Bucy of Christiansburg, Va., director of post award administration in the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), has been appointed interim assistant vice president and director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. She replaces David Richardson, assistant vice president for sponsored program administration in the Office of the Vice President for Research, who has accepted a position at Penn State University as assistant vice president for research and director of the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Bucy joined OSP as associate director in September 2001 and became director of post award in early 2006. She previously worked with the Virginia Tech Controller's Office, serving on the Banner Finance Implementation Team, and was a senior auditor in the Internal Audit Department.

Richardson joined Virginia Tech’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) as interim associate director in January 2001 and was named director in July.

Brad Fenwick, vice president for research, noted that, “David Richardson has made a number of significant contributions to the university’s research administration enterprise, which provides a solid foundation for the future.”

“Continuity of the leadership within the Office of Sponsored Programs is critically important in advancing the discovery mission of the university,” said Fenwick. “I have complete confidence in Linda and the other members of the OSP to meet the grant and contract administration needs of the university.”

“At the appropriate time, we will be conducting a national search to fill assistant vice president for sponsored program administration position,” said Fenwick.

Bucy received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She became a Certified Public Accountant and practiced public accounting in Tennessee for 11 years prior to moving to Virginia in 1985 as a senior internal auditor at Virginia Tech. She joined the Controller’s Office in 1996.
