Paul L. Knox receives Distinguished Scholarship Honors from the Association of American Geographers

BLACKSBURG, Va., May 13, 2008 – Paul L. Knox, University Distinguished Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning and senior fellow for international advancement for Virginia Tech, has received the Distinguished Scholarship Honors of the Association of American Geographers for 2008.

Knox received this honor in recognition of his extensive, internationally acclaimed record of research publications on globalization, urban social systems, and land use planning. A citation accompanying his award, states: “Professor Knox has mentored numerous young scholars in these areas and has strengthened important, long-lasting, cross-disciplinary relationships among geographers, landscape architects, urban planners, and architects while pursuing his research interests.”

He was honored at the Association of American Geographers annual meeting in April 2008 in Boston, Mass. The Association of American Geographers is a nonprofit scientific and educational society contributing to the advancement of geography. Its members from more than 60 countries share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography.

Knox, of Blacksburg, is a past dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. He received a Ph.D. and bachelor’s degree from the University of Sheffield in England.
