Edward Clayton
BLACKSBURG, Va., July 3, 2008 – Edward R. Clayton of Blacksburg, the Ralph Lenz Professor of Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was conferred the "professor emeritus" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors during the board's quarterly meeting on June 20.
The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who have given exemplary service to the university and who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1968, Clayton made significant contributions in research in the field of management science. He has published 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and one book. In addition, he served on the editorial boards of several professional journals and served as president, vice president, and program chair for the Southeast Institute of Management Science.
From 1976 to 1980, he served as coordinator of the college’s management science program. He was a dedicated teacher of a wide range of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He received the college's Excellence in Teaching Award.
Clayton received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from Clemson University.
