Military aircraft flyover scheduled for upcoming Virginia Tech football game

BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 10, 2008 – The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets is proud to announce that, barring weather or operational factors, Navy Fighter Attack Squadron 106 from Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, Va., will conduct a military aircraft flyover with two F/A-18 Hornets during the National Anthem prior to the Virginia Tech versus Georgia Tech game on Saturday, Sept.13.

The aircraft will be flown by graduates of both universities, Marine Maj. D. Tom “Sally” Fields, a 1995 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, and Navy Lt. Jeff “Bobby” Latham, a 1998 graduate of Georgia Tech.

The Virginia Tech versus Georgia Tech game is the Corps Homecoming weekend. Over 300 cadet alumni will join the regiment on the field for the pre-game ceremony, and join the cadets in the Old Hokie cheer after the National Anthem.

To honor the special relationship between Virginia Tech and the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va., cadets will be collecting for this cause at each of the entry gates to Lane Stadium.
