Jazz Ensemble to perform at Lyric Theatre

BLACKSBURG, Va., Dec. 1, 2009 – The Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble will present their fall concert with special guest pianist/composer/trombonist Matt Moresi on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 8 p.m. at the Lyric Theater in Blacksburg, Va.

The concert is presented by the Virginia Tech Department of Music.

The concert is highlighted by the versatility of Moresi, pianist/composer/trombonist, and the variety of music performed. Moresi will be featured on both trombone and piano tunes including numerous big band works, Brecker Brothers Funk and Steve Reich minimalism. Contemporary original compositions by highly acclaimed composers Jim McNeeley, Tim Clarke, and Matt Moresi will be featured. The Virginia Tech Jazz Ensemble is directed by John Adler, who teaches trumpet and jazz classes and groups at Virginia Tech.

Also performing with guest artist Moresi is the Virginia Tech Faculty Jazz Trio featuring Adler on trumpet, John Petrie on bass, and Nathan Alexander on drums. The trio will be performing standards and original compositions in a variety of styles.

General admission tickets are $5, and student/senior tickets are $3. Tickets will be available at the door one hour prior to performance time. The Lyric Theatre is located at 135 College Avenue in Blacksburg.

Off-campus parking is available on the street near the theatre. Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Street, or the Shultz Hall Lot, located off Alumni Drive near the North Main Street campus entrance.
