Kenneth S. Smith
BLACKSBURG, Va., Jan. 25, 2010 – Kenneth S. Smith of Radford, Va., currently the financial officer in the Office of the Provost at Virginia Tech, has been named the university's associate provost for resource management and planning.
Smith succeeds Dixon Hanna, who retired in December 2009 after 37 years of service at Virginia Tech. He begins his new post today.
In his new position, Smith will provide institutional leadership on issues related to university teaching space and classrooms, including academic space needs, academic budgets and strategy, capital planning, and classroom renovation. Additionally, he will oversee the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and the Survey Research Center.
“Ken has excelled in his previous position and is well prepared to advance to a higher level of responsibility in his new role” said Mark McNamee, senior vice president and provost. “He works well with the academic and administrative areas that report to the provost and he helps to solve complex financial and space problems through thorough analysis and effective execution.”
Smith received his bachelor’s degree in political science and a Master of Public Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University following service in the U.S. Air Force. He joined Virginia Tech in 1997 after serving in the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget in Richmond. He is a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education Administration program at Virginia Tech.
