BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 29, 2005 – Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business has appointed Frank M. Smith as director of management and professional development. The office provides educational and consulting services to businesses, government agencies, and other organizations.
Smith has more than 25 years of industry and academic experience leading management and professional development organizations. He was previously the director of the Executive MBA programs at Oklahoma State University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
He also worked at IBM, where he managed applications development programming education in Dallas, Texas; finance and business planning education in Brussels, Belgium; and the worldwide course development operations for the company’s finance, business planning, and information technology functions. He owned and managed Master Training Services, a Texas-based management consulting firm.
Smith received a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maine.
Virginia Tech’s nationally ranked Pamplin College of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in accounting and information systems, business information technology, economics, finance, hospitality and tourism management, management, and marketing. The college emphasizes the development of ethical values and leadership, technology, and international business skills. A member of its marketing faculty directs the interdisciplinary Sloan Foundation Forest Industries Center at Virginia Tech. The college’s other centers focus on business leadership, electronic commerce, and organizational performance. Pamplin (Class of 1933), the former CEO of Georgia-Pacific, and his son, businessman and philanthropist Robert B. Pamplin Jr. (Class of 1964).
