BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 19, 2004 – As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, all power and water services have been restored to campus building affected by a water main break last night. The normal class schedule will resume Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
To summarize the event:
Virginia Tech Electrical Services was notified of an electrical problem at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 18. In responding to the situation, it was discovered that an electrical vault outside of Wallace Hall was flooded due to a broken water main break.
Repairs to electrical water services began immediately. Twelve academic buildings, six residence halls and one dining center were affected by the loss of power and water. Classes were canceled and faculty and staff were asked not to report to affected buildings. All other classes and work schedules continued as normal.
As of noon on Tuesday, water service was restored to all buildings except Wallace Hall. As of 2 p.m., water was restored to all buildings. Electric service was restored by 4 p.m.
