Department of Theatre Arts main stage production, "Her Sexy Outfit," opens April 21

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 15, 2009 – Virginia Tech Department of Theatre Arts presents the hilarious and explosive "Her Sexy Outfit" by Daniel Zippi. This adaptation of "Lysistrata" by the Greek playwright Aristophanes is directed by Department of Theatre Arts faculty member Bob McGrath.

The production will be in the Squires Student Center Haymarket Theater with show times at 7:30 p.m., April 21-26.

“Her Sexy Outfit” is a modern version by Daniel Zippi of Aristophanes' classic play “Lysistrata.” Rife with current political and cultural references, this hilariously ribald farce imagines a world in which women work together, led by an idealistic and charismatic leader, to end a seemingly endless war by withholding sex. Completely re-imagined for a contemporary audience, this adaptation includes brand new musical pieces and is sure to entertain and enlighten simultaneously.

This production contains sexually explicit adult material, themes, and language. Please be aware that we have given the play an “R” rating.

McGrath joined the Virginia Tech Department of Theatre Arts faculty in fall 2007. He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Ridge Theater and has directed theater and opera at venues including The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center, The American Repertory Theater, and Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. He has collaborated with composers and writers including John Adams, Gavin Bryars, David Lang, Michael Gordon, Susan Sontag, Mac Wellman, and Julia Wolfe.

He has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, New York University, and as part of The Eugene O’Neill Theater Festival. McGrath is the recipient of three OBIE awards in New York for his work with Ridge Theater.
