BLACKSBURG, Va., July 2, 2007 – The American Counseling Association (ACA), the world's largest association for professional counselors, is working with staff at Virginia Tech’s Cook Counseling Center to work with students in need of assistance following the events of April 16.
More than 1,000 licensed professional counselors from across the United States have volunteered to provide up to five counseling sessions, at no charge, to Virginia Tech students over the summer. Additional professional counselors offering free services are expected to be added in the coming weeks.
To arrange contact with a counselor, students should visit the American Counseling Association website, click on the Virginia Tech student link, and follow the instructions for making an appointment with a counselor within traveling distance of their home.
In addition, Cook Counseling Center counselors are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students may visit the center located on Washington Street or call 540-231-6557. In an emergency situation, counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 540-231-6444.
