BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 17, 2003 – The Marching Virginians will sponsor a massive canned food drive in conjunction with the Virginia Tech vs. Boston College football game on Saturday, Nov. 22. The goal of the ambitious seventh annual HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY drive is to collect 65,115 cans of food - One Can from Every Fan!
Karen McNew, co-anchor for WSLS News Channel 10 and a Virginia Tech alumna, is serving as Honorary Chairperson of HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY. "A donation will make a child's holiday a little brighter," McNew said. "Maybe one day when that child grows up, he or she may be able to do the same. Creating a cycle of giving can only lead to good things for local communities and beyond."
Drop-off points for HOKIES FOR THE HUNGRY will be established at all four corners of Lane Stadium, at the Marching Virginians' practice field at the corner of Southgate Drive and Spring Road (across from Lane Stadium), and various locations near the stadium where Tailgate Pep Bands will be performing prior to kick-off.
All contributions will be distributed through the Montgomery County Christmas Store.
