BLACKSBURG, Va., April 5, 2010 – The Virginia Tech homecoming board has launched the 2010 homecoming theme contest.
For the third year in a row, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members will have the opportunity to submit their ideas for the 2010 homecoming theme. The contest is now open and will close on May 6. The hope is to get everyone on campus and in the surrounding areas involved. “People think that they need a student ID number to be involved, but that’s not the case. We want everyone to participate” said Monica Hunter, interim director of student activities.
The homecoming game will take place on Oct.16, 2010. The Virginia Tech Hokies will take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The winning theme will be selected by the homecoming board and will be the basis for all events throughout the week-long homecoming celebration leading up to the game. Past themes include “Hokie Pride Worldwide,” “Tradition Never Graduates,” and last year’s theme was “Welcome Home is Etched in Stone.”
The person with the winning theme will win a pair of tickets to all events during the week-long homecoming celebration, including the step show, a concert, Laugh Riot, and the football game. The winner will also have the chance to serve as a judge for the homecoming parade.
Ideas can be submitted online. Deadline for submission is May 6. Questions can be directed to Hunter.
The homecoming theme contest and homecoming celebration events are sponsored by department of student activities, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech. The division complements the academic program by providing a variety of activities, educational opportunities, programs, facilities, and services that enhance student development and enrich the quality of campus life at Virginia Tech.
