VT KnowledgeWorks launches business acceleration center extension

BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 21, 2008 – VT KnowledgeWorks has a new brand image. It is now a business acceleration center. The new designation recognizes the program's extension beyond the bounds of a typical business incubator.

VT KnowledgeWorks has taken on additional dimensions and now serves companies at all stages of corporate maturity.

VT KnowledgeWorks is a unique growth enhancement program that offers incubation space as just one component of its comprehensive mix of services and ongoing support for growing businesses. Since it opened in 2004, VT KnowledgeWorks has assisted almost four dozen startup companies and overall has provided valuable service to over 60 companies throughout the New River Valley and beyond.

The new and improved program continues to assist startups as they plan and launch, but also enables leaders of mature companies to share vision, insight, and experience as they grow. The pre-launch segment of the program helps market-worthy ventures organize, formulate strategy, obtain outside investment, and launch efficiently. Services offered in the enterprise category emphasize strategic support for continual expansion, intra-preneurship, and personal and professional development for business leaders in more mature, operating companies.

Director Jim Flowers says he is proud of the program’s progress. “Traditional incubators typically find it difficult or impossible to offer the VT KnowledgeWorks mix of preparatory services” sais Flowers. “We are quite unique in offering things like a full service blog to assist with publicity and a web-based competitive intelligence service to study and track markets, companies, and people.”

The blog, provided with the assistance of Handshake 2.0, provides exceptional visibility for member companies and for the whole VT KnowledgeWorks program.

The AttaainCI market and competitive intelligence offering is a new and unique VT KnowledgeWorks service. This online software enables live tracking of a company’s competitive position, Web marketing analytics, and delivers on-demand, real-time research on companies, markets, and people.

VT KnowledgeWorks sponsors include Access PR; Attaain Inc.; BB&T; Harris Office Furniture; Hodges; Jones & Mabry, P.C.; Latimer; Mayberry & Matthews IP Law; LeClairRyan; and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).
