BLACKSBURG, Va., Dec. 15, 2008 – The Virginia Tech Recreational Sports continues to help the Virginia Tech community trim their waistline and their expenses with its Holiday Fitness Special.
The special is available through Jan. 1, 2009 and saves participants 33 percent. A McComas Hall spring group exercise pass is normally $45, now on sale for $30. The War Memorial Hall spring fitness pass is normally $25, now on sale for $16.75. Three sessions with a personal trainer is normally $45, now on sale for $30. Packages can be purchased online at www.recsports.vt.edu or at the Recreation Sports Office, 142 McComas Hall.
Healthy habits are encouraged through exercise programs offered at McComas Hall and War Memorial Gym during the semester. The department provides a variety of recreational opportunities that encourages faculty, staff, and the students to exercise. At the same time, there are incentive prizes to motivate and to reward participants for challenging themselves physically and mentally.
Recreational Sports has announced the winners of several fall contests.
War Memorial Gym fitness classes participants were automatically entered in the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Fall Fitness Challenge. Curtis Laub won the grand prize travel package of a $200 Carlson Wagonlit Travel gift card.
The Songer Whitewater Splash Challenge put our swimmers to the test. Participants had to spend at least a total of 18 hours in the pool throughout the semester. The “splashing” activities that could be counted were swimming, water aerobics, water jogging, and other physical water activity. Kristen DiCarlo, a human nutrition foods and exercise major, was the grand prize winner.
Likewise, four runner-up winners received a $25 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card. They were Lauren Owens, a human nutrition foods and exercise major; Christopher Kelly, a communications major; Brendan Rice, an electrical engineering major; and, Brian Chew, also an electrical engineering major.
Recreational Sports will continue the Songer Whitewater Splash Challenge next semester.
Winners of the Images By B Mind and Body Challenge were Elaine Huffman and Jessica Clark, each of whom won a $50 gift certificate from Images by B Salon and Spa located in the University Mall in Blacksburg, Va. This contest also will continue this spring.
