Dining Services offers new jobs for the new year

BLACKSBURG, Va., Dec. 22, 2006 – Virginia Tech's Dining Services will hold its first one-stop job fair from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 12, 2007 in Shultz Dining Center. The fair will provide an opportunity for wage and student position applicants to apply, interview, and receive a decision all in the same day. There are a wide variety of positions available at dining locations across campus.

Dining Services will hire applicants for the general dining wage pool and the student wage pool. The pay rate for dining wage positions starts at $8 an hour. In addition, employees receive a free meal with every shift worked, paid training, and a uniform. There are a variety of schedules available to provide flexibility to employees. Working for dining program offers a great opportunity to gain valuable experience at a self-operated dining organization and begin a successful career in the university food service industry.

The job fair will greatly reduce the amount of time normally required in the hiring process. Instead of waiting days or weeks for a response, applicants will have the opportunity to interview and receive a decision on the same day. Once hired, successful candidates will be able to start within days of the job fair.

Applicants do not need an appointment; they should just come prepared with two forms of ID. Computers will be available on site so that participants can fill out their application when they arrive. Beginning Jan. 1, those who wish to get a head start can go online to Virginia Tech Human Resources and start the application for job posting number 061447, which will allow them to move through the hiring process at the job fair much faster. Students can create an application for the student wage pool, posting number 061455.

The day of the fair, applications can be created or turned in and references will be called. Managers from the dining centers will be on hand to conduct interviews and make hiring decisions. The job offer will be contingent upon completion of a criminal background check, but new employees will not have to wait to begin working.
