Annual Crazy for the Hokies contest hits the road

BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 21, 2009 – Virginia Tech Licensing and Trademarks, the university's on-campus University Bookstore, and off-campus Volume Two Bookstore, are once again asking fans to go 'Crazy for the Hokies' to win cash prizes. This year's contest launched today with the theme Crazy for the Hokiemobiles.

“People think there are plenty of crazy drivers on the roads already, but if we get our wish it will get a lot worse!” says Locke White, director of licensing and trademarks at Virginia Tech. “We are asking fans to decorate their car, truck, or recreational vehicle with Hokie gear, logos, and colors in the wildest, most-outlandish, and craziest ways possible. Show us just how crazy you and your vehicle are for the Hokies.”

Fans are encouraged to have fun with the theme, but decorations must remain on the vehicle for at least three days to qualify for the contest. First prize of $3,000, second prize of $1,000, and third prize of $500 will be awarded. Entries will be judged on three criteria:

Winners will be announced on the JumboTron during halftime at the North Carolina State versus Virginia Tech football game on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Lane Stadium.

Virginia Tech Licensing and Trademarks must receive entry forms and photos no later than Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. Visit the University Bookstore online and follow the link to the contest website for official guidelines and entry form.

“We’re proud to sponsor the Crazy for the Hokies contest again this year,” said Don Williams, executive director for Virginia Tech Services and University Bookstore. “We have as much fun with this contest every year as the participants. We also take pride in the fact that fans who buy their Hokie gear at University Bookstore are helping support university scholarships.”

The University Bookstore, which operates as a non-profit corporation, has generated over $44 million to Virginia Tech for student scholarships and improvements since 1968.
