- Crime Data Mining for D.C. areaLe, Na; Ikeda, Atsushi; Sturgis, Brandon; Goyal, Uditi (2020-05-04)With millions of crime offenses are recorded each year in the United States, regardless of our position or background in the community, safety and security are our top concern when we are in an area. To help increase the community's confidence in public safety, our team proposed a product that can help people view the crime history as well as predict future times and places for crimes in the Washington D.C. area. This product is designed for a typical worker, a real estate agent, a regular student, a researcher or an analyst that are interested in exploring the likelihood of crime to occur in the area to ensure safety. The product provides users with analysis on the count of records in yearly cases or in each ward in the metropolitan area, analysis on how different machine learning models can effectively classify and predict the offense group. Our product also provides time series analysis in each census tract and thus, can predict the crime trend in the same census tract in the upcoming month.
- Who is SpeakingVityk, Martin; Mysore Shesharaj, Vishal; Nguyen, Alex (2021-10-12)Who’s Speaking is a web application where the user can upload or stream audio to process it into a visual timeline of when people speak. Knowing who is speaking, whether for a recording or a live stream, is useful information for various reasons across different applications. Most likely, identifying the speaker would be done manually, which is a time consuming and tedious process. Our project would make it quick and convenient.
- Covid19 Data Webpage Design for Montgomery County, VA School SystemHicks, Megan (2021-12-08)The product was inspired by the current state of the pandemic. This school year, children and families immerged from lock-down to return to the classroom. With in-person instruction resuming, it was important to follow covid19 cases in schools so that children stay healthy. The current information available on the Montgomery County School Website was difficult to interpret, and doesn’t give the user options to view data over longer periods of time, or for specific schools within the school district. The goal of the project was to provide visualizations for several views of Covid19 data in the Montgomery County School District. These visualizations provide overviews of data for the whole school district. They give the current weeks’ total number of cases, as well as a time series showing levels within schools (as a whole and within geographic locations) from the beginning of the school year to today’s date. The project also provides visualizations that allow the user to select specific schools and/or school-levels to view. This information was embedded into a webpage so that it could be accessed by anyone interested in the data.
- Urban AdvisorLuersen, Chris; Paes, Mark; Gurijala, Srija; Barnett, Steven; Wang, Xu (2021-12-08)Our capstone project, entitled “Urban Advisor”, is a data-driven web-based decision support system targeted towards individuals who are weighing options to relocate to a new area. The application features an intake process that allows users to input preferences regarding their income, values, and lifestyle choices. From this, Urban Advisor will return an output of how up to three selected metropolitan areas compare against tailored quantitative metrics specific to the user’s input, and displays graphical data visualizations to assist in a user’s analysis of alternative locations.
- UmartYuan, Ma; Yuan-Shen, Hsieh; Jo-Yu, Liao; Ting-Jui, Hsu; Pei Cheng, Huang (Virginia Tech, 2022)Umart is a second-hand trading platform for university students emphasizing security and privacy. Besides providing the best user experience across multiple platforms and devices, we paramount our system security and customer privacy. We don't have any non-security-related third-party cookies, we won't, in any form, store our customer passwords, and we will periodically remove graduate students and posts. Additionally, there's no need to worry about external hacks since the only thing we know about our customers is they are university students with a valid .edu email account. We believe the best security and privacy enhancement is not collecting user information in the first place, and that's exactly how we implement Umart. With the trust in Umart, university students can easily trade goods with others while moving in and out of their dorm without worrying about leaking their data. Nonetheless, all posts on Umart are categorized into different categories. With a search feature implemented, users can easily find their desires with a few simple clicks.

- InteriorVRBabbitt, Judd; Towle, Ryan; Akalwadi, Siddharth; Pearl, Brandon; Linares, Daniel (2022-05-01)InteriorVR is an application that gives potential home buyers the freedom to customize their new home however they want. While the software is meant to be used in virtual reality so users can get the most immersive experience possible, it can also be used on a desktop with a mouse and keyboard. As opposed to a normal virtual reality house tour, InteriorVR allows the user to add in new pieces of furniture or appliances, take away anything they feel doesn’t fit the space, or modify any existing or added objects in the home. Furniture and appliances can be moved, rotated, and even have their color changed to test out different materials. The other main selling point that separates InteriorVR from your average run of the mill virtual house tour is that you can compare two different homes at the same time. The users can instantly teleport between comparable spaces in two different homes. This helps the user make easy comparisons between different rooms in different homes. InteriorVR is the next revolution in virtual house tours because it gives the home buyers more power and flexibility than ever when evaluating potential homes.
- TicXLitscher, Rachel; Lam, Austin; Knudsen, Grace; Lorn, Brendan; Martens, Elizabeth (2022-05-02)Ticx is a web application built for music lovers to discover new live music events near them, explore events by their favorite artists, and keep a history of all the events they have attended. With the use of multiple ticketing services, such as Stubhub and Ticketmaster, Ticx acts as a one stop shop for concert information. Not only does it present a detailed description of each event, the application catches the eye of a user by providing the ability to view multiple concert venues or events on an interactive map. This is great for those who would love to see different events happening around them or wherever they may be traveling to during a particular time frame.
- TrashAwayGundimeda, Tejaswi; Jariwala, Dhruvi; Robertson, Matthew; Vatsavayi, Maanasa; Venigalla, Maneesha (2022-05-02)This project was developed as for the Virginia Tech MEng CS5934 capstone project. Trashaway is a progressive web application that is user-friendly and is created for almost any user who would like to have their surroundings clean and green. Using this application, anybody who uses a smartphone can report unattended dump/trash in any locality/neighborhood. The report is then handled by volunteer organizations that also use the application. The volunteer organization, once done with handling/cleaning up the trash request, can update the user that that request has been handled. The users and organizations upload relevant images and add details regarding the report while submitting the request and updating the request respectively. The application also promotes user engagement with interactive plans such as badges, coupons that rewards users who are active i.e the users that submit a higher number of reports. This encourages users to be active and also in turns helps keep our surroundings clean and green.
- Urban Mobility AnalysisLeavitt, Brian; Luo, Oliver; McCormick, Luke; Park, James; Tran, Richard (2022-05-04)Our product allows for mobility analysis in the DMV area using demographic information as well as the change in ridership numbers for the DMV metro due to the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. Users can view demographic information such as household income and highest education attained for each census tract in the DMV area on an interactive map. The map also can display metro ridership information before and after the lockdown as well as the percent change in ridership numbers for each individual metro station. The website allows users to input their own data into a machine learning model which would predict post-lockdown DMV metro ridership based on the given demographic data and pre-lockdown-pandemic ridership numbers. This allows for insight on metro ridership if an event similar to the Covid-19 pandemic were to happen in the future.
- MEng Plan of Study Assistance SystemMalhotra, Shorya; Natnael, Shedon P.; Chang, Ian Y.; Xu, Hao (Virginia Tech, 2022-05-04)The MEng Plan of Study Assistance System is a tool that simplifies the research and planning required for a MEng student at Virginia Tech to plan and complete their plan of study. The web application aids students that are part of the Master of Engineering program in choosing courses that will fulfil the Master of Engineering requirements as part of their plan of study. Along with that, the user is able to get information and the syllabus of a course, to assist them in finding the right courses that align with their interests.
- Course PlannerJoshi, Shreyas; Vattikonda, Sivakrishna; Valotia, Dishang; Mane, Suraj; Mali, Namrata (2022-05-04)Aim is to develop a course planner for the Computer Science Master of Engineering (MEng-CSA) program which will help students to search and choose from a variety of courses offered to include in their Plan of Study (POS). Students will enter basic enrollment details and the system will generate a POS for the student. The system will also provide students with access to course syllabus that will allow them to explore different areas. On top of this, this system will provide admin access to the department to maintain the latest information regarding courses that are offered.
- Follow My StepsSiddiqui, Haris; Lee, Wen-Yu; Wang, Yifu; Yu, Qi (2022-05-04)Follow My Steps is a unique Android mobile application that allows users to track celebrities’ footsteps and stories. Although many travel apps already exist on the market, our product addresses problems that others don’t. For example, our app is inspiration-oriented and not a tool-based service. The app gives your trip an interesting and meaningful theme. It allows users to plan their trips by following their favorite celebrities’ steps. Users can receive inspiration from the places celebrities visit.
- Plan of Study Management SystemZhang, Chi; Wang, Haosu; Zhang, Lihui; Fan, Jiahui; Cai, Zihao (2022-05-04)New students in the CSA-Meng program often get overwhelmed by the different concentrations and courses. They also lack a good mechanism to get course information. Thus they could easily make wrong decisions when designing their plan of study. The POS management system is designed to help students get course information, plan their courses and generate their own POS. They only need to answer a few questions before the system generates some plausible qualified POS for them. The system can also help students to check if their manually added POS and course list meet the requirements of the department.
- Find Your University(Virginia Tech, 2022-12)The US education system is growing year by year, and as we see a diverse background of students from various countries joining university programs every year, there is a need for students to go to the right university and pursue programs and degrees that are the best fit for them. To solve this problem, we have developed the FiYU (find your university) web application, which provides students with recommendations for what universities they could get based on their academic grades and competitive exam scores.

It allows patients to interact with different care providers via video calling features, furthermore, it allows the providers to take notes and prescribe medications to our patients. It is an easy-to-use and intuitive application that can be set up for anyone in less than a minute and can provide healthcare on the go. It's your battle, but you don't need to fight alone!
- AIvian: Birdwatching Android AppMolin, Brendan; Suddala, Suchith; Khan, Rehan; Bokhari, Rayaan; Pereira, Conrad; Majumdar, Aritra; Yang, Fan (2022-12-04)Our mobile application, AIvian, is a user-friendly application which leverages AI and provides the tools to allow any bird watchers, especially novice and casual users, to recognize and learn about birds in North America. In addition to providing guidance and information to beginners, the social networking aspects of our application will also connect users from a wide range of skill levels to enhance the bird watching experience through community participation and crowdsourcing.
- EthelodisGaddipati, Divya; Singhal, Himanshu; Patel, Tej; Gottimukkala, Rithvik (2022-12-05)Our project, Ethelodis, is a user-friendly web application which is built for the people who are interested in volunteering and organizations looking for volunteers for their events. Most of the existing websites can be overwhelming to use and flood users' inbox with a lot of irrelevant information like opportunities that the user might not be interested in, promotional emails, blog posts, newsletters etc. This inefficiency in linkage between civil organizations and people is an issue that we aimed to address in our project. The major goal of our project is to ensure volunteers are matched with relevant opportunities personalized to their interests and to notify them for the matched opportunities via a unique push-notification system. Volunteers will get to opt for the categories they are interested in and receive notifications about potential opportunities related only to their interests, instead of getting spammed about irrelevant information and opportunities.
- Click & GoLai, Kuo-Hao; Chen, Hsiao-Shan; Lu, Wei-Fan; Tang, Yuxi; Chen, Shih-Chi (2022-12-06)Click & Go is a web application that helps user to schedule their travel plan in an easy and intuitive way. This web application is made with three parts, which are the client(frontend), sever(backend) and third-party API, and places data is powered by RapidAPI-Traverl Advisor. We use the server to fetch our API data and implement multiple functionalities, i.e. calculate duration between place and place / categorize API data / provide recommended staying time. Before users add any place to their plans, our web app first displays the recommended places near the users' current location. Once users ready to build their plan such as adding attractions/hotels/restaurants on their plan, our server will start to invoke corresponding functions via the place data which is added by users.
- Winder - Make Friends, Get FitHan, Wenjun; Ouyang, Jinyi; Khuu, Alisa; Dong, Yan (2022-12-06)Winder is a web application that allows users to connect with others for workouts and group activities. The design of this application is similar to a dating system, focusing on exercise preference. This web application is tailored to find a new workout buddy, join an exercise group and schedule some sports activities. Users could create a profile displaying their interests and can apply some filters to get the application recommended workout partner or exercise group. Users have a lot of flexibility to set personal criteria based on their preferences. Our goal is to help people effectively find a match to do physical activities together using this web application.
