The CVBs across California have been scrambling to maintain business and have had to beg clients to not cancel their meetings. Every month that California is closed to the travel and tourism industries, $4.1 billion is lost. The travel industry sent a letter, representing over 130 businesses, requesting Newsome to release clearer standards to get their teams back to work and generating revenue.

CVBs are invaluable resources to the communities they support, but received no federal funding within the pandemic relief funds from Congress. This is due to the fact that CVBs are non-profit organizations that mainly receive revenue from hotel bed tax. The pandemic has allowed Destination International, the trade association that represents CVBs, to re-work CVBs business models and partner with neighboring bureaus or individuals. Fortunately, a handful of CVBs have received local funding, but many are struggling to stay afloat with several furloughs and job cuts.
- NYC & Company Launches 'Commit the Comeback' Initiative to Drive Local MeetingsSchoening, Elise (Northstar Meetings Group, 2021-04-01)NYC & Company have launched a campaigned to generate local meetings and travel heading into quarters three and four of 2021. NYC & Company, New York City's Convention & Visitors Buerue, have put together a Meet Local NYC Tool Kit and have 10 Reasons to Book Your Next Meeting in NYC list to help generate local planners to book internal meetings across the city's five boroughs. NYC & Company have also launched the Stay Well Pledge, which encourages the city's tourism establishments to follow the structed COVID-19 procedures allocated by the CDC guidelines. In addition NYC & Company's campaign, the Javits Center has also been GBAC Star accredited in coronavirus cleaning and prevention.
- Visit Omaha to Close Offices, Rent Meeting Space from Local VenuesShapiro, Michael J. (Northstar Meetings Group, 2021-05-07)Visit Omaha is helping to push money into their local economy by formfitting their traditional office setup and pouring their saves back into the community. Visit Omaha will "Rent for Recovery" in up to 52 spaces over the course of this next year. The idea of "Rent for Recovery" will be for Visit Omaha to use their money to help their partners, while providing spaces to continue getting work done. Locations include hotels, attractions, and local restaurants.
