ContentMine instructors, Thomas Arrow and Stefan Kasberger, provide an overview of text and data mining and an introduction to ContentMine tools for text and data mining of scholarly and research literature. Open Data Week 2017 events were supported by a Virginia Tech Beyond Boundaries innovation grant as well as a Virginia Tech faculty mentoring grant.
- Open Government Data in VirginiaJaquith, Waldo (2015-02-20)On Friday, February 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Waldo Jaquith will be speaking on "Open Government Data in Virginia" followed by an introduction to Open Data Day and CodeAcross in Newman Library's Multipurpose Room (1st floor). Waldo Jaquith is the director of the U.S. Open Data Institute, an organization building the capacity of open data and supporting government in that mission. In 2011, in acknowledgement of his open data work, Jaquith was named a "Champion of Change" by the White House and, in 2012, an "OpenGov Champion" by the Sunlight Foundation. He went on to work in open data with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Jaquith, a 2005 Virginia Tech graduate, lives near Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife and son.
