The call to diversify boardrooms around the hospitality industry grows larger as the lack of representation of minority groups continues. Research done by the Castell Project indicated that the number of Black and Asian individuals on boards across the hospitality industry grew from 6%-8% from 2016-2019 later to from by 1% in 2020. The lack of women on boards also remains a consistent theme throughout the hospitality industry with many women urging the industry to promote women internally to board positions.
