The following dataset was collected as described in Kniowski and Gehrt (2014) “Home Range and Habitat Selection of the Indiana Bat in an Agricultural Landscape” Journal of Wildlife Management. DOI:10.1002/jwmg.677. and Kniowski (2011) “Summer Ecology of the Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) in an Agricultural Landscape” Ohio State University. Thesis. http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=osu1299554522. The data set includes six .csv files and one .txt file. bats.csv daily_location_data.csv emergence.csv foraging_locations.csv roost_locations.csv subset_individual_foraging_locations.csv Please see metadata file (METADATA.txt) for complete description of data attributes.en_US
Social dynamics are an important but poorly understood aspect of bat ecology. We used these data in a combination of graph theoretic and spatial approaches to describe the roost and social network characteristics and foraging associations of an Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) maternity colony in an agricultural landscape in Ohio, USA.en_US
We thank the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio Division of Wildlife, The Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Laboratory for their funding and support. We also thank K. Hallberg, A. Boyer, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for their support and permission to conduct research on an endangered species. Fieldwork could not have been completed without our technicians M. Gilmore, L. Gandee, C. Wright, B. Langworthy, and A. Bretscher. M. Titchenell, and others also assisted with field work on several occasions. We are also indebted to the several dozen landowners who allowed access to their land so that we could conduct our work.en_US
