Abstract

This "thought paper" from a workshop on project governance and sustainability explores the relationship between projects and knowledge creation and distribution. The paper initially explores projects from the perspective of Conventions Theory, moving forward to develop a discussion of how projects are integrated into networks as areas for focusing activity and knowledge generation, and then producing this knowledge for wider dissemination. The article concludes with a general discussion on possible ways of incorporating this perspective on activity into project governance to make development practices more sustainable over the long term.
