Using legumes as green manures may help increase soil fertility and the quality of livestock feeds in northwestern Kenya. This study examines relay-cropped mucuna and lablab as alternatives to fallowing in a maize-common bean intercrop system. The maize grain yield was greater after planting mucuna than lablab even when some of the fodder is used as livestock feed.
