Rice producer-processor networks in Côte D'Ivoire

Abstract

Côte d'Ivoire reduced state support for rice production and processing in the 1990s. The article describes how rice networks responded to the macroeconomic reforms. Through interviews with farmers in 2002, the authors discovered that in the absence of state support, private millers became the the focal point of regional producer processor rice networks. To increase their role in the national rice supply, rice networks need support through microlending and a focus on niche markets.
