    Abstract
    La subcuenca del río Chimbo (Figura 1), presenta condiciones socio-económicas y ambientales que ponen en serio riesgo los recursos naturales y las condiciones de vida de la población que en el 77% de los casos es pobre. Esta subcuenca aporta entre un 30 y 40% del caudal del río Guayas el mismo que en los últimos años se ha visto afectado en cantidad y calidad, producto de la deforestación, ampliación de la frontera agrícola y por la mala administración y uso inadecuado de los recursos naturales.
