English Proficiency on the Rise Among Latinos

Abstract

This report examines language use trends since 1980 among the U.S. Hispanic population ages five and older in the fifty states and the District of Columbia, focusing on the languages spoken in Hispanic households and the share of Hispanics who are proficient in English. Accompanying this report are demographic and economic profiles of the U.S. Hispanic population, including trends for several characteristics since 1980.
