BLACKSBURG, Va., May 21, 2010 – Heather Riley Chadwick has been named marketing and communications director of the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech.

Previously; she served as Virginia Tech's College of Architecture and Urban Studies communications manager and Student Programs marketing and communications manager. She began this new position on May 3.

In her new position, Chadwick will lead strategic communications and marketing programs for the Center for the Arts, a yet-to-be-built complex of new and renovated facilities that will house a 1,260-seat performance hall; visual arts galleries; and a suite of creative technology labs and studios that will support the Center for Creative Technologies in the Arts. Construction on the center is projected to begin in 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by 2013.

As the communications manager for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, Chadwick generated national publicity for the college and university and won 15 international, national, and regional media relations and graphic design awards. She has been at Virginia Tech since 2004.

From 1998 to 2004, Chadwick ran her own graphic design and communications business in Atlanta, Ga., with clients that included the Art Institute of Atlanta and the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Before that, she was the publications manager for the Atlanta History Center; a columnist for the Buckhead newspaper; a public relations assistant for Peachtree Publishers, an Atlanta book publisher; and an editorial assistant at Athens Magazine, the regional magazine of Athens, Ga. A native of Blacksburg, Chadwick received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a certificate from the University of Denver Publishing Institute. She is working on a master’s degree in communication.
