Virginia Tech Police make arrest in case

BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 16, 2009 – Virginia Tech Police have charged three individuals with intentionally setting fire to furniture in the third floor lounge in Lee Hall.

The investigation began after the Virginia Tech Police received a fire alarm in Lee Hall at 4:18 a.m. on Nov. 14. Officers found smoke in the area of the third floor lounge and noted that a table, rug and sofa were burned and a hand sanitizer was removed from the first floor lobby and was used as an accelerant to start the fire. The damage was minimal and there were no injuries.

All three individuals were charged with Virginia State Code 18.2-77-burning or destroying a dwelling, 18.2-95- grand larceny, and 18.2-137- destruction of property. All three charges are felonies.

The suspects are identified as William F. Yost, 19, of Blacksburg, Steven Kadak, 19, of Blacksburg and Christopher Schram 20, of Hampden-Sydney, Va. Yost and Kadak are being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

William Yost and Steven Kadak are Virginia Tech students and Christopher Schram is a Hampden-Sydney student.
