Releases from the ED ponds are controlled by an outlet structure. During a storm event, as the discharge restriction is reached, water backs up into the ED pond. The pool slows flow velocities and enables particulate pollutants to settle. Peak flows are also reduced.4 pagesapplication/pdfen-USVirginia Cooperative Extension materials are available for public use, re-print, or citation without further permission, provided the use includes credit to the author and to Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Tech, and Virginia State University.Best management practice fact sheet 15: Extended detention pondsExtended detention pondsExtension publicationhttps://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/426/426-134/BSE-283.pdfBest Management Practice Fact SheetWaterRunoffTreatment
