It shares a few cases where poor women and men had protected water rights, and when new infrastructures were developed water rights were lost or denied. The author points out that it is important to protect and strengthen water access to the poorest to ensure poverty alleviation. The article concludes by defending the need for new and more complex infrastructures that prevent the poorest from loosing access to water and to allow their water needs to be met.
