Dilworth, Mary E.Coleman, Marcus J.2018-07-162018-07-162014-05-01http://hdl.handle.net/10919/84025It is hard to imagine that, 20 years ago, there were state- and national-level discussions and programs aimed at outlining goals for adding and supporting diverse teaching staff and training teachers in cultural competency. Today, the discussion about teacher diversity and cultural competency is barely audible. In this report, the authors examine the compelling need to recruit and retain teachers of color, analyze strategies and best practices in the recruitment and retention of minority teachers that support high student achievement, explore how NEA members and affiliates can take a more central leadership role in collaborating with other stakeholders to recruit and retain a diverse teacher workforce, and advocate for state and federal policies that first recruit and retain teachers who are diverse and highly qualified.application/pdfen-USCreative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 InternationalMinority teacherscultural diversityEducation--Government policyTime for a Change: Diversity in Teaching RevisitedReporthttps://www.nea.org/assets/docs/Time_for_a_Change_Diversity_in_Teaching_Revisited_(web).pdf
