Loss of excitation protection has been implemented in General Electric’s EX2000 Digital Exciter. Through the use of EMTP, several different system disturbances are simulated. The EMTP files are then played back with the help of a real-time playback system. The signals from the playback system are then fed to the EX2000 and General Electric’s Digital Generator Protection (DGP) System, in order to compare the performances of both systems.
