The KCP model integrates major domains used for understanding natural resource use and allocation: symbolic (Kosmos), cognitive (Corpus), and management (Praxis). Because the analysis addresses global, regional and local scales, Barrera-Bassols et al. were able to conclude that there was cross-culturally recognized criteria for KCP developed by indigenous communities regardless of location.
