Organized by VBI's Biochemical Networks Modeling Group and sponsored by Sun Microsystems, the event will provide a forum for software developers to exchange SBML ideas and codes.
- VBI Researchers Awarded $1 Million To Study Biochemical Network ModelingCall, Neysa (Virginia Tech. University Relations, 2003-06-20)Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) researchers Reinhard Laubenbacher, Pedro Mendes and Vladimir Shulaev have been awarded $1 million from the National Institutes of Health. The funds will be used to develop mathematical tools to model biochemical networks from experimental data.
- Virginia Bioinformatics Institute Central To Regional Center Of Excellence For Biodefense And Infectious Disease ResearchCall, Neysa (Virginia Tech. University Relations, 2003-09-04)The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced today a five-year, $42 million grant to establish a mid-Atlantic Regional Center of Excellence (RCE) for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases. Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech will serve as the genomics and bioinformatics core for the 15-university collaboration led by the University of Maryland.
- Virginia Tech receives equipment from Beckman Coulter Inc.Call, Neysa (Virginia Tech. University Relations, 2004-02-25)Vladimir Shulaev, research associate professor at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech, recently received a $175,373 equipment grant from Beckman Coulter Inc. of Fullerton, Calif. Shulaev will use the equipment to catalogue small biological molecules, called metabolites, in an effort to further our knowledge of human health, disease, and treatment.
- Virginia Tech researcher receives $1.8 million to study "Arabidopsis" genomeCall, Neysa (Virginia Tech. University Relations, 2003-12-16)Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) researcher Vladimir Shulaev has been awarded a $1.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the collaborative "Arabidopsis" 2010" research project. Through such projects, the NSF hopes to determine the function of 25,000 genes in "Arabidopsis thaliana" by the year 2010. The research conducted at VBI will examine parts of the "Arabidopsis" genome that are involved in essential functions of the plant, leading to improvements in crop yield and nutritional value.
