    The American Freshman: National Norms Fall 2019

    In this report of the 54th administration of the Freshman Survey, the authors recognize the increasing diversity of incoming college students, along with two new items addressing reasons students choose their particular institution: academic reputation of their intended major and communication with a professor. This report covers a number of financial concerns, such as students’ likelihood of getting a job to help pay for college and how time spent exercising or playing sports varies by family income. The authors also highlight recent trends in students’ emotional and physical health and academic behaviors. Further, they discuss the misalignment between degree and career aspirations for subgroups of students and students’ self-rated ability to manage their time effectively. Finally, they address students’ social and political engagement, including past and forthcoming behaviors and their future goals.

    Findings from the 2015 Diverse Learning Environments Survey

    The Diverse Learning Environments (DLE) survey captures students’ perceptions regarding the institutional climate, student learning outcomes (e.g., pluralistic orientation), and campus practices as experienced among faculty, staff, and peers. The Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) has administered the DLE survey since 2011. This year, 2015, marked the survey’s fifth administration. The survey collected data from 19,580 student respondents attending 26 colleges and universities across the United States. This report discusses students’ experiences with witnessing discrimination on campus, analyze how students contest discrimination, and suggest practices that may lower instances of discrimination on campuses.

    Undergraduate Teaching Faculty: The 2013-2014 HERI Faculty Survey

    This report summarizes the highlights of a national survey of college and university faculty conducted by the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) during the 2013–2014 academic year. Although HERI has been surveying higher education faculty since 1978, this report is the ninth in a series of faculty surveys administered on a triennial basis. HERI encourages institutions to collect data on their entire faculty, but historically these reports have focused on full-time undergraduate (FTUG) teaching faculty. Institutions receive reports for faculty respondents with teaching, research, and administrative obligations.

    This report summarizes the highlights of a national survey of college and university faculty conducted by the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) during the 2016–2017 academic year. Although HERI has been surveying higher education faculty since 1978, this report is the tenth in a series of faculty surveys administered on a triennial basis since 1989. Over the past three decades, the HERI Faculty Survey has collected data from over half a million faculty at more than 1,100 colleges and universities.
