    There are two pilot studies occurring within the Blackwood basin: 'Roads & Salinity' and 'Beyond Fencing'. 'Roads & Salinity' is aimed at addressing problems of salinity and water logging of roadways in Western Australia. The 'Beyond Fencing' study will look at the feasibility of using market-based mechanisms to encourage participation as individuals or co-ops within conservation nodes.

    This is a report on the ecosystem services project implemented in the Goulburn Broken Catchment, Victoria, Australia. The overall goal of the project was to develop and disseminate a different conceptualization of the value and role of the environment for human society. Objectives include:

    The project is estimating the contribution of ecosystem services to the production of wool from a wether flock from a land system in Western New South Wales. The focus is upon the role of vegetation in maintaining landscape function. This is the ability to retain water, nutrients, seeds and mineral soils despite wind and water erosion. The model SEESAW is being adapted for the purpose to simulate the loss of landscape function during the 1890s drought; and under exploitative and conservative management regimes, the differences in landscape function and the differences in profit.
