- BAK1 Mediates Light Intensity to Phosphorylate and Activate Catalases to Regulate Plant Growth and DevelopmentZhang, Shan; Li, Cheng; Ren, Haihua; Zhao, Tong; Li, Qi; Wang, Shufen; Zhang, Yanfeng; Xiao, Fangming; Wang, Xiaofeng (MDPI, 2020-02-20)BAK1 (brassinosteroid-insensitive 1 (BRI1) associated receptor kinase 1) plays major roles in multiple signaling pathways as a coreceptor to regulate plant growth and development and stress response. However, the role of BAK1 in high light signaling is still poorly understood. Here we observed that overexpression of BAK1 in Arabidopsis interferes with the function of high light in promoting plant growth and development, which is independent of the brassinosteroid (BR) signaling pathway. Further investigation shows that high light enhances the phosphorylation of BAK1 and catalase activity, thereby reducing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) accumulation. Catalase3 (CAT3) is identified as a BAK1-interacting protein by affinity purification and LC-MS/MS analysis. Biochemical analysis confirms that BAK1 interacts with and phosphorylates all three catalases (CAT1, CAT2, and CAT3) of the Arabidopsis genome, and the trans-phosphorylation sites of three catalases with BAK1-CD are identified by LC-MS/MS in vitro. Genetic analyses reveal that the BAK1 overexpression plants knocked out all the three CAT genes completely abolishing the effect of BAK1 on suppression of high light-promoted growth. This study first unravels the role of BAK1 in mediating high light-triggered activation of CATs, thereby degrading H2O2 and regulating plant growth and development in Arabidopsis.
- Fastmove: A Comprehensive Study of On-Chip DMA and its Demonstration for Accelerating Data Movement in NVM-based Storage SystemsLi, Jiahao; Su, Jingbo; Chen, Luofan; Li, Cheng; Zhang, Kai; Yang, Liang; Noh, Sam H.; Xu, Yinlong (ACM, 2024)Data-intensive applications executing on NVM-based storage systems experience serious bottlenecks when moving data between DRAM and NVM. We advocate for the use of the long-existing but recently neglected on-chip DMA to expedite data movement with three contributions. First, we explore new latency-oriented optimization directions, driven by a comprehensive DMA study, to design a high-performance DMA module, which significantly lowers the I/O size threshold to observe benefits. Second, we propose a new data movement engine, Fastmove, that coordinates the use of the DMA along with the CPU with judicious scheduling and load splitting such that the DMA?s limitations are compensated, and the overall gains are maximized. Finally, with a general kernel-based design, simple APIs, and DAX file system integration, Fastmove allows applications to transparently exploit the DMA and its new features without code change. We run three data-intensive applications MySQL, GraphWalker, and Filebench atop NOVA, ext4-DAX, and XFS-DAX, with standard benchmarks like TPC-C, and popular graph algorithms like PageRank. Across single- and multi-socket settings, compared to the conventional CPU-only NVM accesses, Fastmove introduces to TPC-C with MySQL 1.13-2.16× speedups of peak throughput, reduces the average latency by 17.7-60.8%, and saves 37.1-68.9% CPU usage spent in data movement. It also shortens the execution time of graph algorithms with GraphWalker by 39.7-53.4%, and introduces 1.12-1.27× throughput speedups for Filebench.

(American Physical Society, 2023-05-15)We measure the B0 lifetime and flavor-oscillation frequency using B0→D(∗)-π+ decays collected by the Belle II experiment in asymmetric-energy e+e- collisions produced by the SuperKEKB collider operating at the ϒ(4S) resonance. We fit the decay-time distribution of signal decays, where the initial flavor is determined by identifying the flavor of the other B meson in the event. The results, based on 33000 signal decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to 190 fb-1, are τB0=(1.499±0.013±0.008) ps, Δmd=(0.516±0.008±0.005) ps-1, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are consistent with the world-average values.
