- Brjuno Numbers and Complex DynamicsSaenz Maldonado, Edgar Arturo (Virginia Tech, 2008-04-17)The Brjuno numbers play a fundamental role in the study of the 1-dimensional Complex Dynamics Theory. In this work we examine the proof of the Brjuno theorem by using elements of Number Theory. We also examine the topological version of the proof given by J. Yoccoz and his renormalization principle. If α ∈ ℝ\ℚ, we also describe how the existence of a Siegel disk at the origin for the polynomial P(𝑧) = exp(2πiα)·(𝑧 − 𝑧²) implies the linearization of any germ of the form 𝑓(𝑧) = exp(2πiα)·𝑧 + 𝑂(𝑧²).
- On Nearly Euclidean Thurston MapsSaenz Maldonado, Edgar Arturo (Virginia Tech, 2012-05-01)Nearly Euclidean Thurston maps are simple generalizations of rational Lattes maps. A Thurston map is called nearly Euclidean if its local degree at each critical point is 2 and it has exactly four postcritical points. We investigate when such a map has the property that the associated pullback map on Teichmuller space is constant. We also show that no Thurston map of degree 2 has constant pullback map.
