- St. Paul, VA: Conceptual Redevelopment Plan for the Former Texaco SiteProctor, Nicholaus; Gilboy, Elizabeth; Jones, Kevin; Tomaselli, Devon; Singh, Shruti; Olotu, Anu; Buyer, Lindsey (Virginia Tech. Community Design Assistance Center, 2018-11-19)The purpose of this project was to work with the property owners and other stakeholders to identify possible new uses for the former Texaco site located at 3051 4th Avenue in St. Paul, and the “pink building” located at 16557 Broad Street and then to create a conceptual redevelopment plan for the property. The property is located in an ideal location for a new use and is within a block of several business and downtown attractions. Some of these include the newly renovated Western Front Hotel, the Clinch River Farmers Market, restaurants, the Sugar Hill Brewing Company, an upcoming theater, outfitters, Bluebell Island Nature Trail, and access to the Clinch River. The Clinch River is widely recognized as one of the most biologically diverse waterways in North American.

Separations help by distinguishing the two dualities. This thesis is an exploration on Architecture's response within complexity and contradiction. Within my project, the driving parameter is the program: A monastery for the Dominican order within an urban context of Washington DC. The architecture has two primary responsibilities, one is to preserve the sanctity of a restricted way of living and the other to engage with its profane surrounding. The two most important questions are: how does a monastery represent itself to a city; and how does a city represent itself from within a monastery.
