We Are Living in a Nightmare: Asian Americans Speak Out Against Rising Violence

Abstract

As meetings and events re-emerge the importance of diversity and inclusion remains at the forefront. It is one situation to say that diversity across the travel and hospitality industry is happening and it is another situation to have it actually happen. Asian Americans are worried more than ever to travel to new events and express the need for the industry to address their concerns. Event professionals have noted that there must be a zero-tolerance for racism listed on event registration, event pages, and throughout the event to ensure attendees feel comfortable and safe. The approach is argued to be stressed similar to the health concerns of COVID-19. Additionally, diversifying speakers and welcoming keynotes from the AAPI community to assist attendees in feeling more welcomed to the event was a positive recommendation by industry experts.
