Abstract
Complex, multivariate systems have one or more tipping points, or breaking points, beyond which the state of the system permanently changes. Tipping points may be on a global scale or even a more regional scale. Once we have passed a tipping point, the situation becomes irreversible and we must adjust to the new circumstances because this will be the only course of action.
